Every single police officer is an unaccountable presence in the community. There are no elections for officers. There is no formal process by which they can be recalled. In terms of sociology, the police are the internal method by which the state exercises it’s monopoly on the accepted use of violence. In the simplest of terms, cops are armed individuals who the government has given an unspoken license to kill with impunity.

And why would it be otherwise? Every cop, every judge, every district attorney, every jailer, these people are coworkers. And every politician needs to sustain public faith in the system all of them belong to. Because for every convicted officer, hell every indicted one, the public loses faith in the state. And in turn, they lose faith in an institution that lays claim to the flow of misery and death.

And we hear all the time, from those two-faced liberals, that the police need reform. They cite the way policing works in this or that country. But nowhere in the world is the police not a club of people who’ve been given permission to get their kicks harassing, traumatizing, assaulting, and killing others. No amount of reform changes the fact that the police are a section of society who have been given these privileges.

These cannot be curtailed privileges either. They are state employees with guns, riot gas, explosives, flash-bangs, armored vehicles, surveillance technology, trained attack dogs, knight sticks, tasers, and CQC training. And for a reason. They are not merely employees, they are the representatives of social violence.

“But what of the Good Cops?”. We hear this too often. The good ones are the ones who are complicit too. They let their coworkers terrorize the masses. They look the other way. And if not, they are the go-to line of rhetorical defense of the so-called Bad Cops. For every rapist and domestic abuser, there are, we are told, dozens of officers who donate to the Boy Scouts and volunteer at the soup kitchen. As though we are to look at the mass death caused directly by the police as an anomaly and not the pattern it visibly is.

The truth is the police are beyond “reform”. They are the armed and sanctified goons of the rich and powerful. They exist not for your protection, beyond whatever purpose that serves for them appear legitimate, but to enforce the will of the ruling class. They exist to break strikes, they exist for white supremacy, and they exist to brutalize the poor. And in truth, everything outside of THAT is an anomaly.
